PHASE 1 of the restoration of Hill Head’s sea defences is completed and contractors have been praised for an excellent job to time and budget.
Locks Heath Conservative Councillor Keith Evans, executive member responsible for the coastline, said 10 groynes had been repaired or replaced and 4,000 tons of shingle imported to raise levels. Public reaction has been positive and Phase 2 will see replacement of the sea wall in front of the beach huts by mid-summer 2017.
Contractors have tried to help Hill Head Sailing Club’s events where possible. Estimated cost is £195,000 and Councillor Evans said: “I am really pleased at this successful work and the plans related to the wall replacement. “This is a very significant project and cost to the Council - not a statutory requirement, but part of the Council’s commitment to community facilities. “The work will ensure this part of the coastal pathway is available for many years.”
