SWEAT pours from Fred Birkett as he steps up his training routine for the big day – the London Marathon on St George’s Day, April 23.
There’s no doubt Fred (45) is the fittest of Fareham’s 31 borough councillors and he’s lost nearly 21/2 stone with his current routine of running 4 mornings a week, covering between 3-7 miles, plus two or three weight training sessions. “I anticipate losing another stone during the rest of my training,” says Fred, who is seeking sponsors for two charities for which he’s raising money – Highlands Hub and MIND’s Wellbeing Centre in West Street.
It’s his first Marathon and he aims towards a finishing time of 4hr 30min for the 26 miles 385 yards of bodily torture. To donate and to see his training updates, go to www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/frederick-birkett or pop into the Highlands Hub and fill in a sponsorship form.
